AKC Breeds by Group
Working Group

Dogs of the Working Group were bred to perform such jobs as guarding property, pulling sleds and performing water rescues. They have been invaluable assets to man throughout the ages. The Doberman Pinscher, Siberian Husky and Great Dane are included in this Group, to name just a few. Quick to learn, these intelligent, capable animals make solid companions. Their considerable dimensions and strength alone, however, make many working dogs unsuitable as pets for average families. And again, by virtue of their size alone, these dogs must be properly trained.

My cousin Lynn has a great dane...goofiest dog on the planet...he would lick you to death..LOL I just saw the dog show the other night..
Me too, that's why I posted about the "Working Class" amazing.
When I was in 7-8 th grade I "dog sat" 3 Great Danes, would walk them 2 at a time. They are great dogs, I loved them.
I had an Akita that I raised from a pup. I named her Dappled Dove, but when her papers can back, they read Daffy Dove; however, she was anything but Daffy. She was a wonderful watch dog and baby sitter. She never bit a human, but could not tolerate strange female dogs. She is buried beneath my Magnola tree after giving us 15 years of immense pleasure.
The relationship is unique. I think they really enjoy doing what they are bred to do. I hate to see dogs just homebound and not free and respected, as the incredible friend they are.
Love these incredible dogs, too, and really all animals. PBS' "Nature" recently did a great show on dogs, featuring the "working" dogs and many breeds as well. The bond between dogs and humans is so fascinating. I'm looking forward to seeing the finals of the Westminster Dog Show when it airs on network TV. I'll see if the website shows any of the early action.
I cought just the last part of the AKC show last night showig the "working class" home they re-run it.
